Beauty is in the Eye

Picture a face,
	A familiar face,
		An ordinary face,
A face which smiles, a secretive face.

Consider the eyes,
	Tired eyes,
		Honest eyes,
Eyes which look inwards as well as out.

What do they see?
	They see a face,
		They see themselves,
They see the thoughts the face tries to hide.

The thoughts are snakes,
	The face is a cage,
		The eyes are the key,
They see the snakes writhing in slime.

The face is a mask,
	The mouth is a slave,
		The eyes are the truth,
The truth is a snake writhing in slime.
